Privacy
When a message reaches the AI, and when it does not
Translating a message means something has to read it, so we are precise about which messages that is. Everything we store is encrypted with AES-256-GCM either way, messages and photos alike, with a key that is generated in your browser and reaches your partner inside the QR code.

Your message goes to the AI together with the recent conversation, which is what lets it get context, tone and names right. It comes back translated, and original and translation are both stored AES-encrypted under a key that belongs to this one message.

Then there is nothing to translate, so nothing is sent and nothing is charged. The message goes straight to your partner and is stored AES-encrypted like any other. Lingoa.chat is an ordinary messenger too.

You tap the lock
The message is sealed on your device and opened again only on your partner's. We store a blob we cannot read, the notification shows a lock instead of the text, and you arm it per message rather than per chat.

A message we cannot read is a message we cannot translate, so locked ones arrive in the language you wrote them in. On the other two paths we are handed a key for that one message and nothing else. Your chat key stays on your device, which is why everything you sent before stays closed to us.
